Droped a file down distributor hole.
Hey everyone, names chris.
I picked up a 95 blazer 4x4 for 300$
that i plan on using for hunting and camping.
It needed a power steering pulley and came with the part!
motor has dealer reciept for full rebuild 100k km (canadian) ago.
My plan is to lift this a few inches and throw some good tires on it, and a 9k winch.
First off to get it running mint.
I was using a file to adjust the oil pump gears, the handel fell off and it droped. It sounded like it hit the oil pan.
Do you think im right? It's a big job to get the pan off!

I'd go fishing with a pretty good sized magnet that telescopes (5 lb sounds about right). Go slow and don't get in a hurry even if you get it close. Remember there'd a lot of steel and iron there. You have to pull the engine to pull the pan so if you're not patient, you will be soon. Who knpws you might get lucky on the first try.

Well i have started removing the oil pan.
I have the torque converter cover almost off, the bolts are free now i just have to slide it out.
It looks like i might be albe to slide the pan out after this is removed, or am i dreaming?
would i be able to drop the pan enough to get a flexible magnet in there?

I'm not sure yet, waiting for the parts store to open up so i can get a magnet.
They are only open two hours this afternoon.
So i will know a little later today. Im hoping this is the case.
A friend has a digital camera scope. but he is just so unreliable and i dont have time to sit and wait two weeks for him to show up.
I will update after i get a magnet.
hopefully i can fish it out.

No such luck! I fished around with a magnet for a good 30 min.
I can get to the gears, but not past them.
It's looking like the pan has to drop!
On that note, will it be easier to lift the motor, or drop the diff to get the pan out?
Can i get the pan down without doing either of those?
Any other tips or tricks i should know?
Ps. the haynes manual for these is horrible!

edit.
after reading threw the manual a bit. i found that i have to unbolt the front diff housing
move it forward, unbolt engine mounts and raise it for clearance! FRICK
im starting to hate this thing lol

Hey man. You dropped the file. Don't take it out on your truck. They really are good machines. Just a little quirky when it comes to working on them and tight too. I personally would just raise the engine but you have to unbolt the tranny. You'll see what "tight" really is. You might as well drop the pan because if you loosened it up it will leak like a sieve if you don't replace the gasket. This is from experience.

ya i love the truck, its just working on it is so much diffrent then a dodge.

this should be alot of help, at least we can see where it is.
if its in the bottom of the pan laying down its staying put.
If its standing and we can get it with the magnet great!
if its standing and we cant get it, i will drop the pan.
I left a few bolts on the pan not touched, so hopefully if we dont drop it, it wont leak to bad. At least untill it starts to warm up.
Im working on it outside and it's cold and snowy. not exactly fun!

really? i've taken off so many pans i've lost count, never replaced a gasket, and never had a leak.
