When removing the gas tank, it is not necessary to remove the hoses from the filler neck. Instead, open the filler door and remove the three 7mm bolts, then slip the gas cap retaining collar from around the filler neck. The neck will follow the gas tank out. Additionally, the three hoses and two electrical connections can be removed with relative ease by lowering the tank slowly with a jack. Because the filler neck will tend to hold up that side of the tank, it will tilt to the passenger side of the vehicle. The fuel pump collar is keyed so that the hose conections are facing the passenger side. The two outside hoses - fuel and return - have gray locking collars. Squeeze them and pull the hose off. The one in the middle is more difficult, as it uses a different lock style. It gets squeeuzed just behing the point where the connector ends. Once the hoses and plugs are pulled, the tank can be lowered by manipulating the filler neck. Best done with a friend, but a fairly simple process.

/\ I second that...

I've done this job twice, once on my Blazer and also on my mothers Bravada. I practically gave myself a hernia trying to remove the filler hose from the tank. Just curious, what have people tried to remove excess gas from the tank? When ever I have tried siphoning I'm only able to get a few gallons despite using 1/4" hose.

In my case, we used a floor jack and a block of wood to protect the tank as a support for the weight while we lowered it enough to get to the hoses and connections. Fortunately, it only had about 7 gallons in it, but it was still good to have four hands on the job.
As to siphoning, my first suspicion is a hose that wasn't "floppy" enough; the filler neck doesn't have much of a downward angle relative to the tank, and I'm wondering if the hose you used wasn't getting deep enough into the tank.

Good heavens! Compared to my Blazer, this undercarriage has enough room to hold a rock concert!
