I have a Dynomax cat-back and it gave me better throttle response and 1-2 MPG. But, I wasnt expecting 5 horsepower, just help my gas mileage, and it did; plus youre not going to feel 5 horsepower even if you had gained it, its a heavy SUV. The Dynomax muffler actually outflows the Gibson muffler too. Look for gains in HP with headers, a chip upgrade, ignition upgrade, or forced induction. If you want to increase your acceleration, switch your rear end gear ratio to 3.73 if you have the 3.42. That will help some, be sure to get a speedometer calibrator, like Superlift's VSSB, as your speedometer would be off by about 9%.

Oh, and I read about your install on CarDomain of the cat-back. Dont know why your kit was so bad. My friend and I installed mine in about 1 1/2 hours, and it fit great. The longest part was pulling the stock muffler and pipe out together in one piece because we couldnt get it apart. What part number kit did you buy?

I got PN 19331...

I mean, it fits ok, it just kind of clangs against the frame where the very end of the tailpipe attaches to the rubber mount (don't know how else to explain it). This can be fixed of course, but my main issue was with the power loss...

Do mufflers need a chance to "break-in"? Because I retested today and the numbers were better by a lot (though still not as good as before I put it on).

I have the new numbers, but I want to wait until I can test again tomorrow to publish. Tomorrow the pulleys go on as well (I will be testing the dynomax one more time before switching back to stock, just in case). This will have meant three separate days of testing. Today I did 7 runs and noticed some improvement in the later runs. It was almost back to the times before I got the Dynomax. I'll know for sure tomorrow after I do the last bout of testing... If the new numbers don't beat the old, I have no reason to keep this system.

I'm racing on Saturday at Famoso in Bakersfield, CA, so I'm trying to get everything squared away before then. I won't get a chance to test my pulleys before the big day, so hopefully they don't give me a decrease... I really don't see how they could... But (as everyone on this forum knows) I have been wrong before... I just don't have very good luck with upgrades. There's too much hype and unproven products to sift through before you get to the good stuff...

Anyways, I'll post again tomorrow to let everyone know how the pulley install went and publish the new numbers on the dynomax (both the ones taken today and the ones I will be taking tomorrow) to justify whatever decision I make (take it out or leave it). My basis for this will be 100% on quarter mile times, I could care less how it sounds. I'll be racing my friend's '67 Buick Skylark GS (small block 350) Saturday, and I actually think I'd have a chance if I could get in the low 16's. He's raced my friend's mustang GT and lost brutally before, with the mustang running low 15s. So, it will be close, all depends on how these pulleys work and if my dynomax starts kicking in some of its advertised power increases.

Hey, at least it stopped stinking...

I think they do break in some, but I dont think its much. I noticed a definite increase in sound, and a slight decrease in restriction after about a week with the exhaust on. And I've checked all the bolts, nothing loose, so I can only think the muffler "broke in" some.

My friends stang was running low 14's. The only upgrades I had on my car was the Hypertech and the K&N Intake.

Looks like you should install a bottle.

Well, by the time my friend puts in his new gears, $800 full exhaust system (can't remember brand), and K&N FIPK he'll be running mid 13's. I don't think I could even get that on nitrous.

Lookin into getting a older 1987-1992 Mustang GT as a race-only vehicle and keeping the Blazer as a daily driver...
