Default e-brake pedal wont release

i have a 2000 2-door blazer. I let a friend borrow the car and he set the e-brake(hasnt been used much at all). When he pulled the handle to release the pedal nothing happened. Since the pedal wont release the brakes wont release and im stuck. I have checked and the cable from the handle to the lever by the pedal is connected. Main problem is car is down a dirt road and needs to be moved. Thought about just cutting the cable below the drivers door but figured I would try here for any better advice. appreciate any help i could get

Thanks

I can't say for sure but when a parking brake is not used (they should be used all the time) the cable can rust inside. You have plenty of power when you step on the pedal to pull the cable through the housing but the springs are not strong enough to over come the rust to pull the cable back and the cable gets stuck. You need to see if this is the problem by checking the cables but you will have to get it loose first. You can take it apart at the adjuster.

is the wire around all the parts of the pedal/release assembly. I had the wire fall off part of it and it looked normal but you couldnt release since the cable was slack between the release and the pedal assembly.
