Electrical problems
I'm going to guess that the subject vehicle is a '98 based on the username and move this to the '2nd Gen Tech' section.
My first guess would be something is going on inside the ignition switch. There should be a fairly comprehensive thread that I wrote years ago that should give you some test procedures to work through to help you diagnose your vehicle and come up with the proper repair.
Anatomy of the Ignition Switch is a good starting point. You can test for power to the various fuses at specific key positions to see what, if any, are missing power when they should have it, then back track to the switch and test again at the main ignition switch to body wiring harness connection to verify that the problem exists in the switch itself.
There are also a few different threads in the Tech Article section on the removal and replacement procedure that should help you should the switch be found to be at fault here.

I once lost most of my gauges do to a short in the radio. I had gone over a bump and then they went out. I could still drive though. I was able to track the source of the short to the radio. When I took it out, I discovered a couple of nickels that had been put into it over 10 years earlier when it was owned by the previous owner that must have been jostled loose and caused the short.
