electrical short
Keep getting a blown fuse, #11 (rpm, speedometer and fuel guage). 2001 4 x 4 4.3 Guages work until it's put in drive then it blows.
I assume there is a short. Never tried to hunt one down and not exactly an electrical guru. Any tips for finding and fixing?
Someone told me to put a higher amp fuse, which i would assume is a no no. What would that do putting in a higher amp fuse? It's a 10 amp.

you dont want to put a higher amp fuse in, when GM designed this wiring harnes they dertimined that if something on the circut draws more then 10 amps a fuse should blow to protect the circut, rather it be sensetive electronics, wiring or to prevent a fire. So stay with the 10 amp fuse.
if you post the year make and model I can post a wiring diagram and give you a clue as to whats on the circut that may be causing the problem.

I think it probably has to do with the gear indicator switch or wires on the side of the transmission. If your transmission was just done, I'd take it back to the trans shop and have them fix the short. The plugs are almost super glued in (what ever sealant GM uses). If the plugs are heated with a heat gun they slide out easily. If they weren't heated the wires could be damaged there. The wires can get pinched in many places also. My guess is based on the fact it shorts when you put it in drive.
