I have a 97 Blazer 4x4 4dr. and i have a slight problem with the engine bogging down. the car starts and idles just fine but when the throttle is applied it bogs down. This only happens for about the first fifteen seconds of driving and then seems to go away, except the engine still bogs if the throttle is over three quarters of the way down. Also it seems to just be a little unresponsive. I don't know if its a problem with with the MAF or catalytic converter or what any input would be great.

I would remove and clean the throttle body, MAF sensor, and EGR valve. Caked up carbon on the EGR valve and throttle body can cause a low rpm bog and a dirty MAF sensor can cause much worse things as well as a bog.. Start there and see how things work afterwords.
You will need a new gasket for the EGR valve and I recommend you get one that has an integrated screen on the inlet. This will prevent large chunks of carbon from being blown loose in the exhaust and plugging the valve open.

what is the EGR valve? And i have cleaned the MAF before but it didn;t seem to make a huge difference.

EGR == Exhaust Gas Recirculation
It is the soda can sized valve located between the alternator and the A/C compressor.
Search for further details.

My 97 Blazer 4x4 has been bogging down for a while so i cleaned the throttle body, EGR valve and MAF sensor. It still kept bogging down so I read somewhere that if it is the MAF sensor and you unplug it and it runs better that is the problem. Well it runs like brand new... better than it ever has since I've had it. I don't have the money to replace the sensor right now and am wondering what would happen if I just left it unplugged.
Thanks

I combined your threads concerning your issues with the MAF sensor and the engine bogging down. It's better to keep things together so folks can see what all you've done.

If you left it run without the MAF plugged in, your engine will not be running to its potential both in power and in efficiency.

But if it is already running like crap otherwise, and runs much better without it plugged in, will it hurt anything to leave it unplugged for a while.

It will not hurt anything per say.

Wouldn't unplugging the MAF cause the Check engine light to come on? Perhaps it's running better because it's in Open loop mode?
