2000 Jimmy Sport

Hey guys,
We're having problems again.
This time it's the cooling system.

Engine overheated (in -20C ),
heater blew cold air only,
rad fan runs,
no major leaks, except out of the weeping hose of the reservoir,
yes there is fluid in the reservoir
belt starts to smell after running for a few min. only, smokes if you leave it run too long

First thought that comes to mind is the water pump, could be thermostat, but then the belt wouldn't get hot.
Before I go out and buy a waterpump I would like to make sure that it isn't something else and I just wasted money on a waterpump.

Can you guys help me out with steps I should take, or things that I should check in order to find the true problem??

If belt is burning up i would think somehting def is not turning as freely as it should. Also no heat implies that there is nothing moving th coolant...i.e. no pressure ...no waterpump doing its job.
I would say pump...overheating can happen but it shouldnt have anything to do with the belt burning up...the two combined still say pump to me.

 

Yeah the belt gives it away I suppose.
You guys are just so much more vehicle savy as me I thought I better double check if there isn't something else that I should look at before.

What's the best way to take the pump out?
Or where is the best thread that describes it?

i am pretty sure my thermostat is not opening but i am not sure where on my v-tec 95 jimmy motor, i beleive it is a stock motor for that year, cant figure out how to get to it without moving belts n stuff???

 

If you need to, just remove the belt. It's not hard.

Oh and by the way.... It's a VORTEC, v-tec's go in hondas.

 

Your truck overheating is directly related to the burning rubber smell. The water pump is locked up and not spinning, causing the truck to overheat and the belt to slide on the pulley instead of turning it, which is causing the burning rubber smell.

Stop driving.
