Default famous misfire

Hello all
I have a 98 4.3 Vortec

I have the famous misfire that noone seems to be able to cure (at least I havent seen a cure yet) been looking for about a year to find a problem but I have just had to get used to it.
Now after a few days (of not driving it) it wont start, I put in a pick-up coil it starts, leave it a few days without starting it and same thing, took it back got another and cycle starts over.
Just for sheer morbid curiosity I put the old p/u coil back in and it started.
Also if it rains overnight it wont start.
now it wont start at all even with another new one in it.
That leads me to think I have a wire issue.
I found this forum and it looks like a great place to spend time, I have a few mods I will post elsewhere.
as for now has anyone seen the symptoms before, I am at a loss for words or ideas.
Also would anyone have the wire routing diagram from the p/u coil to where ever it goes I will replace the wires.
thanks -B-

Which misfire? P0300 Random/multiple misfires? Does it crank and not start? A little more info would be great.

Yes crank and wont start, I can smell fuel in exhaust.
I cant remember the code its been a while. I just remember random misfire.
Im not sure if the misfire and the not starting issue are related or not.
I tried to trace the wires and as you all know they had no fear of using electrical tape on the harness when they built the Blazer.☺
thanks -B-

pull the upper plenum off..turn the key to the "on" position and see if you have a fuel leak anywhere inside....
