Few problems with my '98 blazer
Hello All,
I just discovered this forum and it seems like I have come to the right place for help. I have a 98 Blazer 4wd 2 door automatic, 4.3L. Currently I am having problems with my brake lines, my rear brakes, and my driver side window.
I ruptured a brake line where it bends around the frame almost under the driver side door. I also have trouble with my rear brakes burning and they make a terrible whorling noise, like metal on metal. My emergency brake doesn't work so I am wondering if that ma be the culprit. Also, my driver side power window has stopped working. I am not sure if it is the control switch in the door or the window motor itself.
I called a mechanic about the brake lines and he told me that replacing the brake lines front to back on both sides would cost around $500-$600. Then add the brakes and window repair I am looking at some serious money. I am wondering if I could do them myself, so I am just looking for some advice on what I should do.
Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Find a different mechanic. The one who quoted you $500-$600 is absolutely out of line. There is only one brake line to the back. Above the axle, it goes into a flex line, then to a 'T' out to another flex line at each caliper. To replace the line from the ABS pump back to the flex line at the frame above the rear axle will likely cost under $50 for the parts.
Your brake noise is likely froze up caliper slider pins. You may have to replace the calipers along with the caliper brackets.
With your window, the motors aren't known for absolute reliability. You will have to get the door panel off to do any testing, but once you have it off, you can rig up some test wires to the battery to see if directly powering the motor will move the window.

Every blazer and S10 ruptures a brake line where it bends around the frame almost under the driver side door. this is the common spot for all of them to rust out and ruputure. the rock guard holds in water and dirt keeping it wet there all the time....mine just ruptured there last week....i tried to section in a new 10" long line with 2 unions but my double flares did not come out that good causing leaks at the unions. so i either have to find someone with a hydraulic flaring tool to put the double flares on my lines or run a complete new line that is pre-flared from the union by the upper control arm to the other union that is on top of the frame right above the rear axle....i would need to use two 60" line for this.... but it would cost under $18 for the lines and stuff.... i also plan to the change the rear axle lines after i finish the other main line cause they look a little rusty near the wheel cylinders. i think i can get away with a 30" on the drivers side and a 40" on the passengers side....
