Default A few Q's on '98 Blazer

OK so I picked up a sweet deal, so I am hoping, on a 1998 Chevrolet Blazer LT - 4x4, auto, 4 door for $1500. New stereo, new car starter, new windshield, new radiator, <?new/used?> engine or tranny on 150k km now so he says and flashed some paper work at me. I believe him. Couple of issues. The odometer reads just under 300,000 km. What goes on these things, was talking to a stranger at the junk yard, tells me transmissions go on them,he was thinking about putting in a manual tranny from a 2 door.

My issues currently with my "new" rig is

1) Bad oil leak, underneath radiator, just inside of LF wheel. Took plastic cover off. Seems like its a remote oil filter, so my hoses from filter to engine block are leaking. How hard is it to replace? I just add a litre or so every few days. Checking the oil constantly.

2) Pitman and Idler arm need replacing. Again how hard is it to do. I think this might be for a mechanic to do.

3) Sway Bars are listed as need repairs in future. I will let them slide for now.

4) Parking/Mechanical Brake definately needs fixing. Loks like its a 3 piece, dont know if my LF is the issue, due to the hose there needing replacing.

So I got a friend of a friend who is a mechanic. He is not back until the new year. Just wondering how hard this stuff is to do. I just bought me a tool set on sale at 75% off reg $600, sale $150 at cdn tire. Plus I can rent a repair bay with hoist and air tools.

I would probably let a shop do the pitman arm and idler arm since you may or may not need to have the front end aligned afterwards. The oil lines are no big deal either although most will tell you to get the proper fittings and make new ones your self because many pre maid lines for this vehicle are not very good. There are also people who will say to eliminate the remote lines and relocate the oil filter back to the block location and eliminate all the future head aches but this can be a little tricky as the remote adapter needs to be pulled from the engine block.
