Flecks of possible metal in coolant overflow tank???
Today my 98 Blazer was well on its way to a temp of 260 after a little bit of highway driving. After refilling my coolant overflow tank, we noticed specks of something sparkling in the tank. My brother tells me that this could be metal from my water pump? I am hoping for some advice on what this could be?
My car is still overheating, usually runs about 2 notches lower than 210 consistently. Now, seems to creep up slowly past 210 to bout 230 240 or so after sitting in traffic or at a light. So, after reading another thread I'm going to look into replacing the thermostat and rad cap. However, the issue with these specks of what we think are metal worries me. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Some of the stop leak type additives can leave behind what looks like flecks of metal.
Between 200*F & 210*F is normal temperature.
Someone may have added stop leak at some time before to "fix" a problem that has now reduced your cooling capacity...
