Been working 7 days and have not had the opportunity to get back to my problem. With the upper plenum off should I be be looking at fuel leakage from the regulator if it is the problem or is the regulator just by-passing fuel to the return line? One other thing I'd like to check is the poppets. How do I go about that check.

If your pressure is remaining above 55psi for at least 10 minutes after the pump shuts off, there are no leaks in the fuel delivery system: Poppets, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, fuel pressure lines from the pump to the fuel metering body, and the fuel pump check valve.

Regulated pressure at 58psi is too low, and it will cause problems, guaranteed. You need to check maximum pump output pressure at the fuel filter outlet to see if the pump can supply the necessary pressure. If the pump can only supply 58psi to the injectors and regulator, 58psi will be your regulated fuel pressure because the regulator will not bypass fuel back to the tank. Fuel pressure from the pump must be greater than the regulator setting, which is, or should be, 60psi to 66psi. The pump needs to be capable of supplying 73psi to 108psi.

Disconnect the quick connect fitting from the fuel filter outlet. Install one of these on the fuel filter: Dorman Products - Search Results Connect a piece of 3/8" fuel injection rated rubber fuel line to the fitting. Connect the other end to your fuel pressure tester. Key on, engine off, (obviously, no fuel going to the engine) and the pump running, write down the pressure. Wait 10 minutes and write down the pressure. Post both readings.
