Fuel filter problem...

Default Fuel filter problem...

Hello Everyone! New to the forum, I just drove down my 2001 Chevy Blazer from Chicago to San Diego! I was a challenging ride due to the fact that it was given to my wife, it had 74K miles, and it was deal we could not pass up since we can not afford a new or even used car.

I started having problems when I used the cheaper fuel in Kansas, I quickly caught on to the problem and bought fuel injector cleaner.

It ran great until we drove into Vegas, where we bought more fuel at an AM PM, and we started having problems going up the hillsa again, it would choke, and would not go past 45 MPH.

I suspected that the fuel filter may have picked up debris from one of the stops, so I bought my fuel filter hoping to make an easy fix, and found my self in a jam.

Due to the salt in Chicago, the stupid fitting will NOT come off, I practically stripped the out part of the nut, so I tried using lock pliers, and still it will not come off.

Is there a way to make an adaption of some kind?
I am thinking of cutting of the end that thread on to the filter and finding some kind of fitting where I can attach a rubber line.

Since I have been out of the loop with fixing cars for over 30 years, I thought I would turn to the experts for advice, since I do not want to make a mistake that will cost more than the stupid filter : (

I moved your post into a new thread because it really wasn't on the same topic as the thread you originally posted it in.

Whatever you do, you have to remember that there is ~60psi fuel pressure in the line. Any repair you make must be able to withstand that pressure.

Had the same issue with mine. The route I took was go to partsource (I guess advance auto would be the equivalent in the US), they had the fuel filter fittings there with about 6" of pre-bent line. I bought a 3/8" ID fuel injector hose (can sustain up to 120 psi), and 2 t-bolt clamps for this line (high pressure fuel injector clamps would work too, just don't get the regular type hose clamps).

I cut the old line approximately where the new line would fit in with a mini pipe cutter, slipped 2" of hose over the end, slipped on the clamps, then the fitting in the other end. I torqued the clamps down real tight, and it's been good ever since. Cost me about $9 for the fitting, $4 for 1' length of FI hose, and a few cents for the clamps. It only took me about 15 minutes to do, 12 of those minutes were turning the pipe cutter in a tight spot (couple turns in between the cursing! :lol: )

Great thing about it is that if the replacement seizes up, just undo one clamp, and take the fitting out to put in a new one!

If you are having problems going up hills, choking, and not able to get past 45 MPH, it may be worth it to inspect your MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor. I have had the same problem, it would choke and struggle uphill, and once I cleaned the MAF sensor, the truck's response was like night and day.

Thank you for your reply, I cleaned it out with a fine brush, but that did not take care of the problem. Now that I remember, when we were traveling back from Chicago, we had Rain for two days. We were using the 2 hi, then would switch to auto 2 hi/4wh drive. We used the cruise control, we noticed that when we used the cruise control it would act up.

The problem would go away when we turned off the cruise control, then we had a steep hill to climb, we want to accelerate to go up fast, but the car choked, and the service engine soon light came on, we could not go past 50, eveyone else was zooming past us including semi trailers.

When the road leveled off, the car acted normal except that it sounded as if it were running in 4 wheel drive., the service engine soon light would go off.

The same thing happens now, any hill, the truck chokes, the service engine soon light comes on, and it take a while for it to go off.

I borrowed a friend hand computor thing, I do not know how to read them or make out what it says, but this is what come out:
