Default Fuel gauge Question.Stuck past full.

I replaced sending unit and the fuel lines from tank to filter and the return line. May have over filled the tank afterwards. Now, the fuel gauge is stuck at the 3 clock position which is past full. I turned the truck off and unplugged the sending unit and then put the key on and it returns to the 3 clock position. Key off it rests at full. Seems to me the gauge is broke in the cluster?

The needle could just be stuck. This happened to me once after I pulled the cluster out one day. Pull that out and move it around until its resting on its pin or somewhere in the E - F range. If it's not that then it might be an electrical problem.

on the older 80s trucks when it went way past full it meant it had a broken ground. make sure you didnt break a wire under there somewhere

Think i Found the problem, the float fell off the sending unit. Serves me right i suppose for buy a lower cost aftermarket one from Autozone. I am hoping when I have a good float in there the gauge will correct itself when it receives voltage?

There should be a fuse which I believe in under the hood(don't quote me) that you can pull and then put back in which will reset all gauges
