Default Fuel Injector Spider Questions

This is in reference to my 2002:
Have RPO code L35 which is: Engine, gas, 6 cyl, 4.3L, CPI, V6, 90 deg.

Does this mean the engine has the CPI system? I thought by 2002 the MPFI system was used...???

I think it is time that I finally replace the spider and of course am unable to find any of the notes I took years ago as to the part number to get for the MPFI spider.
What is the correct part number?

Thanks,

Thanks Christine.
I also found another posting that stated 2002 was the transition year to MPFI. I did the lower intake gaskets about 10 yrs ago, did not take any pictures, or at least that I can find now, but I do not remember seeing the MPFI spider. Pretty sure I have the older poppet style. So that adds another $50 to the price from motorman.

Looking at RockAuto; has a SKP SKFJ503 complete new MPFI spider for $145 and includes the bracket. Anyone have experience with this?
Then of course there are the ones on Amazon and ebay for quite a bit less $$$....but I do not want to do this again.....anyone have experience with either of these?

Recently I upgraded from the CPI to the MPFI spider. If I recall correctly, when I went to the wreckers I was looking for an X in VIN numbers. Check your VIN number Lanny, it would be interesting to know if you have the W or the X. (I could be wrong, but it seems to me I pulled the spider from a 2002 Astro Van with an X VIN).

At first, I bought the cheapest spider available on e-bay. The plastic nozzles did not seem to seat properly into the manifold, you should feel them pop or snap into place. The cheap spider nozzles seemed more like a friction fit. The plastic tubes were very stiff and I had a great deal of trouble bending them into place. The tubes wanted to collapse which of course would restrict the fuel flow. Ultimately, one of the injector tubes broke into two.

If I were to do it again, I would use better judgment and steer clear of the cheap e-bay injector.

The 9th character in the VIN is a W.

From more reading and searching, appears that a GM unit is no longer available, so forced to go aftermarket which is why I was looking at ebay & Amazon, just to see what was available.
RockAuto is my usual "go to" for parts, but not sure about that SKP brand; might just be the same as the ones on ebay & Amazon, for more $$$.
Motorman's spider would likely be the safest route, if he gets quality materials these days.....IDK.

Appreciate the responses.....keep them coming.

Lanny,

I count myself fortunate that I was able to get an GM spider when I replaced mine when I upgraded my LIM gaskets many years ago.

While searching for info for you I found that the the individual injector nozzles are available from GM parts suppliers but not the central body.

In light of the fact that you cant buy a new AC Delco spider anymore, I worked with another member on this a while back and we came up with this:

https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CRB2...r1-p2Q9P_a1w17

Its expensive but its made in the USA and has a 3 year warranty. Not many reviews but they are positive. I have no personal experience with this unit.

Lanny, all L35s in Blazers through 2002 model year had SCPI injection (poppet style) unless they were converted, 2002 was the first year the LU3 (MPFI) was available in the vans. 2003 was the first year LU3 (MPFI) was available in the Blazers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevro...2%B0_V6_engine

I have an AC/Delco MPFI spider that I bought back in 2014. Used it just enough to figure out I had an injector wire shorting on exhaust manifold after engine replacement - maybe few hundred miles and switched back to old MPFI spider as it had already been upgraded in the past. No mounting bracket or fuel line o-rings anymore (lost during the last 11 years). If you're interested, PM me and make an offer. I would always take it back minus shipping if it doesn't work out for you.

Would need o-rings from https://www.dormanproducts.com/p-6090-90000.aspx
Would need a GM bracket 88894355 (for a LU3) which is available. I would assume that is the correct bracket, since otherwise wouldn't need a replacement bracket for upgrading earlier vehicles. https://www.rockauto.com/en/partsear...rtnum=88894355

Christine: thanks for looking for me. I found the same, injectors available but no central unit.
George: I had misread the posting regarding MPFI beginning in 2002. They did, just not in the Blazer....as you posted. The NAPA unit was actually the first one I looked at. And yep, a tad bit towards the expensive side. I did find that Autozone lists a GM unit, 19210688....but it is almost $600! and has really bad reviews about it. Not going to spend that much.
Les: Wow!... that is a very nice of you! Sending a PM.

Thanks once again.
