Default fuel pressure regulator

I need to replace my fuel pressure regulator. I have a 1996 chevy blazer 4.3 vortex. Where can I go to get step by step directions and maybe some diagrams to follow?

Thanks for your help.

That is a thread discussing the replacement on a CPI motor. For the 96+ SCFI motors, it is a bit different.

To the OP, have you verified that the regulator is definitely your problem by following the 96+ Fuel System Diagnosis? If not, then I recommend that you go through the diagnostic steps in that thread before replacing the FPR. On the SCFI fuel systems, the FPR is much more robust than on the older CPI systems.

If the FPR is definitely the problem, it is fairly easy to get out. Not as easy as the CPI motor though. You have to remove the fuel lines on top of the engine as well as the wiring harness that goes over the engine. Once those have been removed, there is a ring of bolts that hold down the plastic upper plenum that need to be removed. The plenum lifts off and you are left with the spider mounted to a bracket which is bolted to the lower intake.

Some things that can be tempting to you... It is quite tempting to just bend the fuel lines out of the way and not disconnect and remove them at the back of the motor. This can make things VERY difficult to get put back together so I do not recommend doing this. You may need to use some shorty wrenches to disconnect the fuel lines at the back of the engine.

When you put things back together, it can be somewhat difficult to get the fuel lines connected again at the back of the intake. The fuel line fittings are easy to get cross threaded. To help, do not install the retaining bolt until after you are sure that you have the fittings threaded in properly. This will allow some room for things to move as you attempt to thread in the fittings.
