Fuel Pump Parts to get?
Hi all,
I got spooked this evening with my truck not starting and I'm thinking that it is time to replace the fuel pump. It is 25 years old and has over 160k miles on it.
So, I've started looking at replacements. Using my VIN at GM Parts Giant, I found that it lists the following:
19369939: MODULE, Fuel Tank Meter/Pump, MODULE, FUEL TANK FUEL PUMP (SENDER & PUMP)(INCLUDES SEAL)(INCLUDES 3)
It wasn't clear from this site what came with the pump kit.
Then to double check the part number and what comes with it, I went to Tasca parts and found two pumps that are cross-listed that according to their pictures appear to include the same parts. These pictures show what appear to be the mounting o-ring, the fuel level sensor arm, the fuel pressure sensor, and a pig-tail for doing the wiring connection.
Fuel Pump and Level Sensor Module with Seal, Float, and Harness - GM (19369939), and
Fuel Pump Module - ACDelco (MU1733)
The big question is what other parts do I need to be sure to replace when/if I do this repair?
Should I also get the fuel pump strainer (25166285)? The Ring, Fuel Sender Retainer (lock-ring) (22552577)? Anything else?
I'm pretty sure a new Fuel Tank Meter/Pump SENSOR KIT (19121300) comes with the pump kit.
Finally, what is a good price for a replacement GM/AC Delco pump? At these vendors they sell for about $260. At Rock Auto they sell for about $215.
Thanks

They (parts stores, including Rock Auto) sell the complete pump and peripherals in an all in one package. No need to wonder what parts you need to order individually. But, and this is a big BUT, only get AC Delco or Delphi. Pretty sure you already know that. You shouldn't need a harness for anything as if you order the correct pump, the nipples will match up to the quick disconnect fuel lines, the plugs will match up to the electrical connections, the filter sock is included, the float will be already installed, and the o-ring will be provided.
You have a four door, so it is a easier job than on the 2 doors. You may to replace the fill line and the vent hose. Trust me, those hoses will be next to impossible to remove with tank unstrapped and lowered a bit. I've done this job twice on my Blazer and provided technical advice and help (when needed) to my son on his Blazer. I just cut the fill and vent lines on mine both times but my son was able to get his off without cutting somehow. Use a lubricant when putting the hoses back on, whether new or original. I just used motor oil (clean), same on the o-ring.

Are the filler hose and vent hose standard size or are they special custom parts? I found these part numbers: 15023466 and 15961530. The first one I can find, but the second one is not in stock but looks to be 3/4" ID hose.
To lower the tank, do you need a transmission jack? I only have a small floor jack.

I'm pretty sure that any fuel-safe hose is good, and I believe you're right that it's 3/4" inner diameter. When I did the fuel pump on my 4-door Blazer, I replaced them too and I just got generic line from my local NAPA and cut it to length.
As far as lifting the tank, I did it with a small floor jack with a 2x4 attached to spread the load. The hardest part was actually getting the rusty strap tension bolt loose without breaking anything.
If possible, you want to do it with the tank as empty as possible. AJBert's advice of lubricating the hoses and seal when installing them is great advice and will make your life a lot easier.
