Default Fuel sending unit

I have a 1999 4.3L blazer with 83000 miles. The fuel gauge is jumping around so after reading many posts I understand this is most probably the fuel sending unit.

Anyway, the question I have is, should I be considering replacing the entire fuel pump or just the sending unit sensor itself? I used to run every tank of fuel pretty low, after reading that the fuel pump really doesn't like that, I stopped. I haven't had any problems with the fuel pump as yet however.

Thanks!

If you are sure the pump works fine then replace the sending unit, keep in mind the wires from the pump to the sending unit inside do get brittle so you may want to get the little wiring harness too(it's about 10 - 15 bucks)
