I would run the diagnostic guide available for the code. Why did you replace the spider? You said you had poor fuel milage but was that the only reason?

found the problem, somehow the two leads for the cylinder 1 injector got bent under the plug. Took it for a spin on the highway got better mpg, acceleration, and more power.

But I noticed when maintaining a constant speed between 60-85 there is a random hesitation, perhaps the fuel filter, but i can't seem to get the old one off.

Yes I did change it primarily for gas mileage and also to fix a miss at idle, which it didn't fix.

It sounds like youre starting to guess. Not good. The fuel filter will not cause a random hesitation. Changing it wont hurt anything. But it wont help with the hesitation either.

Have you serched the forum for your problem?

make sure that you did not pinch the wiring to the spider when reassembling the intake. just another idea

I agree changing the filter wouldn't hurt but might not fix the problem

Well the only thing I can think of that would cause the hesitations (which are minor, reduction in power for a fraction of a second) is low fuel pressure. Besides I have to change the filter before I can get an accurate check on the pressure from the pump.

I've sifted through a lot of different forums, but haven't come across anything that seems relevant. The wiring for the spider is all tucked to the inside of the plenum so none of those are pinched and I couldn't have missed pinching one of the fuel lines.

Any other ideas I'm all ears.

Search Random+hesitation.

A plugged filter would cause a whole mess of problems. Hard start, poor performance, no start, ect. Not the type of hesitation youre speaking of. Mine has it and Im aware of whats causing it. It isnt fuel pressure related. I bet if you run a live data scan you will find a few clues.

Check the fuel pump pressure BEFORE you change the filter! Wouldnt you like to be able to see a difference in pressure after a filter change? That way if there is no change, you know the filter was not causing the problems.

Just my humble opinion

excellent point on checking the pressure beforehand. Pressure is currently at 50 and unless I'm mistaken it should be 60. So i will be changing the filter tomorrow hopfully that will bring it up sufficently.

Right now Im trying to figure out how to fix the plug on top of the spider, I noticed it when checking the fuel pressure. i guess the pressure from the bent pin has forced one of the contacts back into the plug over time, which pushed the the white gasket out and displaced the one of the two blue covers each holding six pins in.
