Fuel tank replacement with a plastic one?

Hi,

I got a 96 Blazer 4dr, the tanks is leaking there a pinhole and it's seem pretty rusty and i need to change the tank. I know that some newer model are using plastic tank instead of the old metal one... Is it a direct fit? or they changed the shape and connector location?

Thanks

Phil

Off the top of my head, I would say you would end up changing fuel pump assemblies at the same time if you were to undertake such a conversion. Wiring, plumbing, etc will likely be different to do so. The fuel tank part numbers change between 97 and 98 with the available steel tanks. I believe 98 was the first year for the plastic tank (it is the first year that shows up stating "w/o plastic tank" for the 4-door tanks).

Things look like they are still located near the same spot, but again, without seeing them side by side...

Thanks for the info. I think I will go with an new aftermarket one... i dont have time to search and compare both tank. I just had time to fix it with the old trick of the soap bar lol. I need to change that today.

Thanks

I had the same problem with my '89. I found a plastic tank on eBay that was a direct fit, but I think its a bit taller, which would make sense as its a 20 gal tank as opposed to the stock 13 gallon. The stock straps didn't fit, so I bought longer bolts, problem solved. I installed a new pump because mine wasn't working properly. It all worked together fine.
