funny noise

I am picking up a noise starting around 30mph. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds a little like noisy studded tires, or a louder after market exhaust. I have neither of these and this is a new sound. I put it in park and neutral and revved the engine and it does not duplicate the sound. Could this be a wheel bearing? Any other thoughts? Has anyone had a wheel bearing replaced at a shop? Cost? Thanks for any insight...

Patience my friend.
Search for "wheel+bearing+noise" and see if the results sound similar to your problem. It could be a wheel bearing. If turning one direction makes it worse, then it likely is a wheel bearing.
As far as prices, call around. Price varies. For the part cost, look on a few websites. You don't have to wait for someone to respond to you, you can do the leg work yourself.

Had it fixed today. Ended up being a wheel bearing/front hub assembly, which is connected into the ABS. The part was $204 and labor $90. In looking at my past service records, the other side was acutally done in 05 under warranty, and the dealer also did the idler arm. I think I had it at an oil change place and they told me about the idler arm, dealer confirmed and also replaced the hub assembly. Back in 05, the dealer cost on the hub was $350, plus $70 labor.
