Default Gas Tank Compacity

Having gas gauge issuses seems to be not so rare. My gauge readsaccuratly until it reaches half a tank or less, then fluctuates from empty- quarter- and half tank every start up. On what my gas gauge says is empty I have never put more than 15 gallons in. What is the gas tank compacity for a 2001 2dr 2wd 4.3L Blazer ?I was under the impression that it was a 19 gallon tank.

It is a 19 gallon tank.

The guage is innacurate.

Even brand new, you'll probably only put 16 -17 gallons at most when the light comes on.

GM sells some stuff you put in your gas tank that's supposed to keep the fuel sender clean.

From what GM rold me the gauge is acting normally. I had them send me a copy of the GM document about this.

GM Document ID # 18317414

Condition/Concern:
Fuel gauge may be inaccurate or drops to empty (E) and the low fuel light comes on. Furthar analysis may reveal that this condition is most apparent when the gauge is at or below the quarter (1/4) tank mark.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Try to duplicate the concern by driving the vehicle a short distance in reverse and then stopping (to make fuel slosh), shifting transmission to park or neutral and then shifting back to drive. The fuel gauge will have a tendancy to read lower than actual. The gauge will take a few minutes to show the actual fuel level. The VCM/PCM is the buffer for the fuel gauge.

1. On a Automatic transmission no buffering takes place when the transmission is in park or neutral. This is a NORMAL characteristic & NO repairs are necessary.

2. On a Manual Transmissions, the fuel gauge is buffered in all gears and neutral. Since the VCM/PCM has no way to know what gear it is in, there is a timer which starts to count up when the clutch iis depressed. When this timer reaches its calibrated value (this value will vary), the filtering switches to the "fast" filter (no buffering). When the clutch releases the filter then switches to the slow filter (system is buffered). This is a NORMAL characteristic & NO repairs are necessary.

Sounds like double talk to me , but here is the info anyway. I doubt a Fuel system cleaner would do any good, but it could not hurt. I have 40 year old cars with fuel gauges that work just fine.
