Default Gas tank question

I just bought a new gas tank today right after I dropped the old one and noticed some sort of valve on the front top side of the gas tank that had a nipple on it. Mine is broke off. Just wondering what this is and if there was anything connected to it like a hose or something. Any help would be appreciated. Did a search and came up nothing. Thanks, Eric

Yes theres a hose on it. Should be tucked up against the body right at the front of the tank.

So did you break the connection on the new or the old tank?

It's on the old tank. I took it out to put on the new tank when I noticed it broken off. The new tank doesnt come with one. I figured I would have to get a new one at the dealer. I just didnt know if something was connected to it.

It's called the rollover vent valve and is connected to the evap system. If you don't have it connected then you'll smell gas vapors in your vehicle and could cause a catostrophic fire, not to mention you may get error codes. I paid $40 to buy one from the dealer, if you can find one in the junkyard you'll save some money. You can remove the old one by pushing down on it and turning counter clockwise appoximately 1/4 turn.
