Default Gear indicator wrong.

Okay, heres the problem, the digital display for the steering column gear shift is wrong.
when its in park reverse and neutral its fine, when it is in drive it says neutral, drive is 3rd, 3rd is 2nd, 2nd is 1st and 1st doesn't ever light up.

I've had the blazer for about a month but the dealer I bought it from is a used car dealer/ mechanic's shop rather then a chevy dealer so I'm not sure if they are going to have the tools to correct the problem or if they will send me to a chevy dealer. Has anyone else had this happen to them? is it that common that I can expect the dealer I bought the vehicle from to have the tools to fix it?

Default RE: Gear indicator wrong.

well i know with some of the non digital displays there is often a cable attached to the gear shift in the steering column. not 100% sure if there isa cable or just a electronic sensor. if its a sensor, most likely it is malfuncitoning. is there is a cable, which then goes into a sensor it can either be the cable binding or a bad sensor yet again.
