Cool beans......I'm a G80.....guess I will need to fix what I have. Is this the default for a ZR2?

Yes, it's part of the RPO code ZR2 "off road" options package.

I'd try to spin it by hand and listen/search out the noise, maybe have someone lightly press the brakes while you do.

Another thought is a warped rotor hitting the backing plate or something else.
That backing plate is a real bear to get to.
Mine rusted bad, and would not stop making those wretched noises....no matter how many times I smashed it with a hammer!

Yeah, if I remember correct you have to pull the axle shafts to change the rear ones.. I think when i did them on my first blazer they were so rotted i basically pulled them off, and cut slots in the new ones so I could put them on without pulling the shafts lol.

They make new ones that are two pieces.
I assumed I wouldn't need to change them in another 20 years... Guess we'll see! Lol

So how does the backing plate make this noise, mine appear to be in pretty good shape with a little rust and feel structurally sound and not flimsy at all. If this is my issue I will be one happy camper.

They get bent or distorted and rub against the rotor. Make watch in between the rotor and backing plate, spin the disc and make sure it's not contacting or abnormally close in any areas

That's not it.........darn it. I thought there was another issue from previous threads, the backing plate was actually the second thing I checked after the pads.

Well then.......sounds to me like the wheel bearing. Even if you can't duplicate the sound with the wheel off the ground, putting weight back on it will most likely be the bearing. If its making that much noise, don't overheat or stress the bearing to much you will end up with a real mess on your hands, like replacing the axle and taking a chance of debris going into the rear end gears.

Did you ever find out what the problem was?

The cool thing about these forums is sharing the solutions or progress if you could, as this benefits us all greatly.
