Hard start - Did fuel leakdown tests - advice?

The O rings, washers, & retainers "technically" should be replaced when the lines are removed: http://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/d...0000&showTitle=

Ok, cool, I'll let you know how it goes. I'm looking at that diagram and when I took off that spider that the shop installed, it did not have part number 11. Didn't know about that part so the spider I just installed does not have it, is it vital for it to have that part?

The image is the old-style spider which has six injectors in the metering body. Part number 11 is a retainer that holds the injectors in the fuel metering body. On the new style spider, the injectors are relocated to the intake ports. If you have the old-style spider, a new retainer comes in the kit.
The kit is for resealing the old-style spider assembly on the 4.3 and the 5.7 so you will have parts left over.

Oh ok, I got the new spider assembly so I'm good. So got home and looked in the holes where the fuel lines go. So the spider assembly already came with the o rings in them? Here's a pic - I keep trying to push the lines down into them but keep springing back up. Do they click when in place? I feel like I'm missing something so simple.....

No click. There is a metal retainer that holds them in place. The retainer is held down with two stainless steel nuts, one on each side of the fuel lines.

Ok, thanks! When I took off the other spider assembly they were stuck in there once I removed the metal bracket so I figured they had to have clicked down or something. I'll round up someone to give me a hand holding them down.

Shouldn't have to force them. They should stay down so you can install the retainer. Might be an O ring is crooked or something. If the O rings or washers aren't installed correctly it will probably leak fuel. Might want to check that out

I think I'm having to force them due to pulling them out, might have bent them a little bit or something. o rings and washers look aligned right - got the metal bracket back on. I installed it exactly how it was when I took it off(took plenty of pictures during disassembly) But they are still sticking out a little bit and looking at it...looks like the metal bracket is upside down? Sorry for asking a bunch of questions!

Good question, looks upside down to me. I checked the 98 I just buttoned up and I installed it the opposite way you have it. I checked my 99 that hasn't been dismantled (yet) and it too is opposite of yours. Then I checked the other 98 (that someone replaced the engine on prior to my purchasing it, but it blew up again before I bought it) and it was the same as yours... Let's see what the Captain says...
