Default Hazzard light switch

Guys i have a question. My 1997 lt 4x4 blazer has not had break lights for a while and i found the article on the bad hazzard switch i was going to but a whole new assembly but was wondering if replacing this switch for 20.00 bucks would woek for me?

So i messed around with the switch and my breaks flicker and if i hold the switch an 8th of an inch to the right they work. But i saw some smoke role out of it i am a bit concerned. What do you guys think?

You can pull that switch shraight out and it shoud be fine without it and yes the thing is only 20 bucks. An easy repair.

The PN listed in the how-to is for the 98+ trucks, not for the 96-97 trucks. Not sure if all of the steps apply...

Well the magic smoke you saw confirms your suspicion that the switch is bad.
The trident box will make great kindling for the upcoming fire.
REPLACE THE SWITCH.

I have the same issue , tried an old switch then put in a new one .. no brake lights regardless .. But mine works if I pull the switch towards the steering wheel so I fitted some folded cardboard behind it and works like a charm for now .atleast i have brake lights .. Possibly might need to swap out the whole multifunction switch .

Hey thanks for replying i believe at this point i am going to buy the whole assembly. No need to waste 20.00 on a switch if that is not going to fix it. Now figuring out if i can do it myself.

I am no mechanic but do anything and everything I can before I fork over the money to someone else todo it . And basically I didnt have right tools to remove . You will need certain security bits and possibly have to remove steering wheel or atleast plastic behind the airbag area to access the torx screws in the column . But I havnt done it or seen a how to so I could be mistaken also . Goodluck it really a bitch figuring out gremlins thank god for this forum ..I'd be lost
