Default Hazzards and Brake lights not working!

It's been a while since I have been on here. But my issue is my brakes and hazzards pretty suddly stopped working. I had this issue about 4 years ago, replaced the relay fuse and worked great. Now I have done that and still not working. Checked the side fuse panel, all fuses are in working order. I do have "parking" lights on when I turn the actual lights on. I am using the thermal fuses. I did read it does not matter too much which you use except the thermals tell you when your blinkers aren't actually working. I saw a similar thread but It didn't adress my issue totally. is it something that could actualy be wrong with the turn single switch?
Anyway, thanks in advance for any help. Just hoping to save a trip to the mechanic.

Check and see if there is a recall on the multi switch for the 97. I know that there have been some issues with the 2000- 2002 multi switch carrier going bad and causing the hazards and taillights to quit working.

I had this issue in my 97. It's the multi switch. Just pick up a new hazard switch and swap it out. I think I paid $40 for the hazard switch up here in Canada (It's probably $20 in the US)

When I pulled my old one out, the contacts were actually melted into the surrounding plastic.

It is definitely a problem in the multifunction switch. You may be able to get away with replacing the $15 hazard switch only, but that depends on the extent of the fault. Try messing around with your hazard switch a bit to see if it changes.

Groovy, I'll check that out. Been to busy to even read much email. THanks for the responces and advice. Now that you mentioned the actual switch, I do notice it sticks now and it never did before. Sounds logical in my book!

Update, that was it, thanks again for advice. saved me a lot of cash and headache! woulda posted sooner, but was on vactation in California for a while. hehe
