Exclamation Heater/Floor/Vent/Defrost (Pictures Inside)

I have 1999 Blazer LS (3button 4x4) 4 door.

Now I know this subject has been covered quite a bit about oil in the line and can cause damage to the actuators but my problem is a little different (I believe)

the shiny metal piece that fits over the plastic piece doesnt stay on
i know it dont stay on because its missing the metal clip that keeps it on.

But i also have concern with the rusty metal spring ears that go over the black piece
are those supposed to be like that?
they are not connected or twisted together.

that white plastic piece i dont think is working correctly so i think its more of a mechanical problem then a vacuum problem.

does that white piece rotate or just lift up when the diaphram pushes that shiny metal piece upwards and downwards?

mine dont rotate i dont think..

any help would be great

here are the pictures

the first two pictures (the part im talking about is middle and to the left)
just like the very bottom picture

it looks like the white plastic piece sits on top of that back plastic piece and then held together with the rusty spring but the spring's legs are not twisted together so when the vacuum causes the diaphram to push the shiny metal piece up the white plastic piece lifts off the black plastic piece.

anyone know how this works?

Take a look at the video in this link:

no/little floor heat, vid inside - S-10 Forum

Is that what yours does? If so, it's a problem with how the plastic piece is seated in the black box.

Here is what mine looks like in my '04 Blazer:

The grey plastic piece looks like its has (or had) problems. Shouldn't be rusty springs...tells me there was moisture in there. Also looks like someone tried to seal it with something.

nice video link

mine is almost doing what his is doing but not quite

my arm was loose because i didnt have that metal clip but if i manually hold the metal arm onto the white piece and switch my heater controls to vent and floor i see the whole white piece push away from that black piece that the metal spring is resting against

mine does not pivot.

so it is supposed to pivot?

i think your right
the white piece isnt connected correctly inside that black box or something

do you know any more ways to test it before i really start to rip that whole thing out?

maybe there is another white piece i can buy that just slips into there?

btw thanks for the help and info

added a little video
now dont pay to much attention of the metal coming off the plastic but more attention the plastic not actually rotating

You can buy one of those plastic pieces separately; the other comes with the actuator. I can't remember which is which. I would just remove the white plastic piece and see if something is cracked in there where it sits on the black box.

is that the normal way to remove and install it?

i mean it just "pulls" out of the black plastic box and it just "pushes" in to install it?

Here are some images of the grey plastic piece, which is similar to the white one in the way it mounts to the black box. To get this piece out, I had to snip off the "wings" in the tab that fits into the black box. So a new piece would have more a snap-in shape to it.

appreciate those pics for sure.

so it looks like that piece mounts on a square rod...
hmmm
i wonder how i can take my white piece out without braking it....only if i open the black box up probably.
i would like to reuse it if possible.
i wonder what made mine come off the square piece (it might not have)
hmmm

From memory, I believe there is a little plastic clip on the other side of that square hole (can kind of see it in the 3rd pic). i think that holds it onto the door flapper. Small flat blade screwdriver un-clips it, and then the whole plastic piece should pivot. It's those dang wing clips that are so hard to get free from the opposite side of the black box (and thus the reason why mine are chopped off).

im not sure what you mean by wing clips

would they best be seen in pic#3 and the circled wire of the spring actually covers it up in that pic?
