I bought this truck a few months back, has 177k on the clock but has new engine and tranny. Only reason I found that out was I had to pull off the intake for a leak issue, and the valley was like new. Well when i bought the truck it had a oil leak that the owner swore was the valve covers, and me being stupid I believed him ( I was in need of a car fast), well after I got it home and drove it a few times I noticed the oil was worse then I had thought. I started looking for the leak and it looked like it was coming from the oil pressure sending unit adapter so I pulled it and inspected it, then reinstalled with no luck. then pulled intake off to change gasket and clean up intake, still no fix I was hoping it wasn't the rear main but it was. I changed that and the oil leak went away. I noticed that it was running strange so I pulled the codes and it had a codes but no ses light just codes, it was the code that said the distributor was in off , cant remember what code it was and ramdom misfire. So I pulled the distributor and saw that the gear was toast and the cap and rotor were bad. Changed distributor, cap rotor, plugs, plug wires, and the coil. After all that the distributor code went away but the random misfire is still there.....( but the ses light never comes on?????) My question is first off why the heck isn't the ses light coming on, and what else could this be. It has a low idle also idles @ 500ish after warm. It seems to run fine off idle and is getting 16ish mpg. Any suggestions would be nice. I haven't checked fuel pressure but i wouldn't think that seeing how it runs well off idle. I did do a search and all the info i was finding was suggesting the there issue was the truck running bad, well mine really isnt.

Does the check engine light illuminate during the normal bulb test after turning the key to the run position? If not, the bulb is likely burnt out.
Are you still able to get those codes? They will really help towards diagnosing your problem.

I got the codes it is the p0300 for the misfire, and the other is gone once i changed the distributor. I thought that about the bulb but took the cluster apart and i cant see a bulb for it. all I saw was the backlighting bulbs.

when you turn the key to the on position do you see the engine light flash or come on ?
do not start it just turn it once so you see the ses light being on
