Default help please - another fuel pump question

I've been having problems for the past 3 months with intermittent starting problems. Took it to 2 garages after I gave up trying and both couldn't find a problem. Fuel pump was replaced last year, but not Delco. Problem happens for a few days, then goes away for weeks.

Cold starts just fine and these days it's really cold. After driving for 20 minutes, going in to store and restarting, it sometimes takes quite a bit to get started. Cranks just fine, doesn't catch. Drive 20 minutes again, wait 10, it gets progressively harder to start. (Typical Saturday shopping) Last week, after 3 or 4 stops I got stuck at Lowes for an hour before it started.

I thought it could be water in the tank so I added 2 containers of gas tank antifreeze and topped up with gas.

Yesterday, it stalled out in the middle of an intersection, waited an hour, started fine. Then, I drove 20 minutes on the highway at highway speed the engine sputtered and conked out without warning. I waited an hour, still wouldn't start. Went back today with buddy to tow it back, it started perfectly and drove home for 20 minutes, just perfect.

I was getting a 0442 and 0147 code but they cleared and haven't come back. I suspect bad wiring prior to gas tank but that's kinda hard to explain conking out twice while driving. Now I think that it may a be bad pump that is not working right and overheating, making it cut out entirely.

Any suggestions? It's damn cold sitting there waiting for an hour.[:@]

Read the post from 'just a mom' that sounded similar - seems to be a lot of them. rriddle3 suggested testing the ICM. I hadn't thought about that. Any thoughts??

Reporting back that I took it to a 3rd mechanic and after 2 days he finally got it to have the same problem and the fuel pump was theproblem. Worked sometimes - not others. New pump, problem solved.

Answer - I had bought a cheaper brand new pump on ebay. BIG MISTAKE. Saved money, but ended up paying a lot more.

Lesson learned.
