Default hesitaion fix

so my 98 blazer lt 4x4 hestitated a little when press on the gas so i looked into my MAF sensor and EGR. my MAF bars wasnt that dirty but the screen was so i cleaned it up with MAF cleaner. my EGR had alot of carbon build up and the valve was sticking a little cleaned it up and my gasket was going bad cause there was rust build up around the port hole and valve hole on both the EGR and the manifold so i took wire brush and 180 sand paper to knock down the rust til it was smooth. and put a new gasket. broke my air sensor after my MAF got a new one and wala got more power doesnt hesitate anymore people told me my MPGS can be effected if my MAF and EGR is dirty so i hope my MPGS are back up...

Good for you for going the extra mile both in looking at those and reporting back!!
But here's some info... you really cant tell how dirty the MAF sensor elements are just by 'looking'. Once you can see it, because of how the MAF works, it's practically inop.

The bottom line is that because of a combination of dirty MAF and leakage through the EGR - which causes a false rich at the O2's - your engine was running lean. And gave you the same symptoms as a vacuum leak.
If you could have watched your fuel trims they would probably bear that out.

As to whether your mileage improves.. may or may not. Clearly a better running engine does better at the pump. However..My kid had a Tempo with a constant EGR code and he wouldnt fix it because he got great MPG's.
