Hood will not pop!
Hi all,
Let me take a moment to introduce myself. I am Wells. I own a 1997 Blazer.
I am having some trouble with my hood popping. Here are the details I can give you:
1. When I pull the lever to pop the hood it sounds just like it popped. But, then I go and look and the hood is still intact.
2. After I try to pull it, the pressure it takes to pull the level decreases greatly untill i push down on the hood. (the hood does not move at all, i just have to put pressure on it)
3. After that it will "reset" and when i pull the level again it will make a popping sound likeit has popped but hasn't
4. this process can be repeated infinitely (I pretty much know that for sure - lol)
5. Through all these stages I have mentioned the hood firmly remains intact and there is no play. It is just like it is shut like its supposed to.
To me, it almost seems like the cord is too lose that connects the lever and the device that latches the hood and needs to be tightend. I say this because to me, it feels like it almost partially latches it. But, not all the way.
Anyhelp or advice is greatly appreciated! And by the way, great forum!

try if you can get it open adjust the hood stops first the to rubber posts on each side of the core support mine did that till i adjusted those now it pops like its supposed to hope this helps
The outer bump stops have very little if anything to do with the proper operation of the primary hood latch.
You may need to have someone help you by hitting the front of the hood while you pull on the lever. I suspect that the hood latch needs lubricating. However, the stock cable has a spring on the end of it to return the lever inside the cabin to its rest position. In more than one case that I have experienced this, the cable itself had stretched and was no longer pulling far enough on the latch. To remedy this situation, I added a very small cable clamp to the very end of the cable at the latch.

I had this problem on my 95. The cable seemed to have too much length and it wouldn't pull the latch completely open when you pulled on the lever. You got kind of what you are talking about which I would massage the hodd apllying little bit of pressure then it would open. I got tired of doing that and found the cable and shortened it up.
Hey everybody,
Sorry to bring an old thread back up. Just thought I'd let everyone know that the issue was resolved. Turns out the latch mechanism just needed to be cleaned out with a toothbrush and wd40. Works great now!
Thanks everyone for the help,
Wells

I had this same problem once upon a time. It was a recurring problem. The WD-40 was enough to fix it, but it would always come back in a few months. Rather than using WD-40, you'd be better off lubricating it with grease. I did that and it's been good for well over a year now.
