Been having some issues with my 4HI, 4LO or AUTO 4WD light blinking after the appropriate button.
It was suggested to lift the front right wheel to see if its engaged. I've done this and now it works as advertised.
How does that "fix" it?

The front axle on these vehicles are engaged or disengaged by the 4X4 controller. The passenger side axle shaft inside the housing is made in two pieces. Where they meet, the shafts are splined and a splined collar slides over the joint. In 2 wheel, the collar rides over only one shaft, allowing the axle to free wheel. When 4X4 is selected the collar is slid over both shafts, locking them together and engaging the front axle. When the collar is in the 4X4 position, the mechanism closes a switch to let the controller know the axle is engaged. Until that switch closes, the lights flash.
The splines have to be aligned or the collar can't slide over both shafts. Normally, slight variations in tire diameter, turning, etc. cause the shafts to turn at a slightly different rate so moving slowly while pushing the selector switches allows the splines to align and the light goes solid. When you raised the wheel off the ground the splines aligned and the collar slid fully into position. It is common to have to move forward or reverse for a few feet to get the axle to engage or disengage when on dry pavement.
