Each DTC has it's own parameters for clearing, (they are not all the same).
Clearing P0442: The PCM turns off the SES after 3 consecutive drive trips, (not drive cycles) when the test has run and passed. If the SES light is still on, the problem is not fixed.

A history DTC P0442 will clear if no fault conditions have been detected for 40 warm up cycles, (coolant temp has risen at least 40F from the start up coolant temperature and the engine coolant is more than 158F during the same ignition cycle).

The only way to manually clear all memory files is with a scan tool capable of accessing and clearing the history file, (not all scan tools can do this). Simply disconnecting the battery will not clear the history file.
