Default How long do these last in comparison

Ive been looking around at cooling fan clutches and electric cooling fans. Both are about the same price and I know an electric fan will save a tiny amount over a properly working fan clutch. Right now my clutch is basically stuck on its been like that as long as I have had it. About how long does a fan clutch last in comparison with the electric cooling fans?

Probably the same reason it was a must to replace the fan clutch in my mothers 1st gen. It took FOREVER to get up to operating temp in the winter.

I do not share in your statement that an electric fan will save over a properly functioning fan clutch. Unless you go through the trouble of installing cut off thermostats (plural if you are running a two speed fan), then your electric fan will be running all of the time, drawing crank horsepower the whole while. The stock thermo-viscous fan clutch only draws power when the heat being pulled through the radiator is hot enough to engage the clutch.

As far as which will last longer... Probably a crap shoot. You could get a bad thermo-viscous clutch just as easily as getting a bad electric fan. I would consider the stock arrangement as more robust due to its simplicity. But that is, of course, just my opinion.
