How to read codes on a '95 blazer
I have a '95 Blazer. The other day after doing some work on the car I removed the battery for a few hours to clear the code memory (I heard this is the easy way to do it?). Then drove the car for a while, no check engine lite, but wanted to check at Auto Zone any how.My car has (what I think is the correct receptal) for the Actron 9175 testor that I used. It plugged in fine but when I went to tell it to communicate it could not. I tried moving things around, unplugging and plugging back in several times, but it always could not communicate? So when I read the manual it said '96-2005 is what the tool was designed for. So is the connector on the '95 still the same as a '96-2005 but the tool cannot communicate with a '95. I hope this all makes sense. If the tool cannot read the '95 what tool can?
Thanks

A '95 is using the OBD I diagnostic system and 96's and later use the OBD II. The scanners for them are different and the OBD I system does not give anywhere near as much info as the later style.

The problem with the '95 was that it was a change over year. It has some aspects of an OBD2 system, including the OBD2 diagnostic link connector (DLC), but much of the system is still OBD1. This is commonly referred to as OBD1.5 as it is a mix of the two. You will need a scan tool that is capable of testing your vehicle specifically.
