Just did a fan and blower replacement on my 1996, it wasn't too bad, just a few things to bug ya. Replaced the resistor pack for the speed control too. pays to grind the stud up above that to get the old one out and the new one in, cut it short with the dremel. I'd cut the stud in front of the fan motor too, and put a notch in the bottom hole for the screw that hold the fan in, cause its a bitch to get to. And some fiddling with the motor and fan on the way out and back in, as the faring is at a weird angle.
When you have the motor out, be sure to take the opportunity to clean out any leaves and needles that might have accumulated up against the face of the AC evaporator and elsewhere. I was able to pull out and suck out (with my shop vac) at least 6 good handfuls of leaves and needles. I have an ash tree on one side of my driveway and a tamarack on the other. Ugh.
I have the Auto Climate Control and with the temperature control module out, I was able to get to the leaves and needles.
