Default I hear the pump but it sounds odd and wont start

I have a 1995 blazer that had intermittent issues with starting. Sometimes you couldn't hear the hum of the pump when you turned the key so I'd reach in the glove box and wiggle the relay and it would start right up and never have any issues while driving.

Today it died idling at a stop and it wont start back up. I can hear the pump hum but it sounds louder than it used to be. I didn't check for fuel pressure yet because the car is sitting in a parking lot so I have to get it home to look into the issue.

Anybody have a problem where they can hear the fuel pump but the pump was still bad?

Man check this out I had a feul pump that only had about 40 psi of pressure and a new spider assembly. It lasted until I got my new one, On line because I could not afford the A?C delco. But anyway it would work for about 30 minutes, and then what we thought was it would get hot, then it would die. So the answer to your question is yes!

Do a fuel pressure test

I wouldnt jump to conclusions so fast

if it is the pump i wouldn't recommend using a aftermarket or junkyard products . We prefer delco or delphi

I would love to put those name brand parts on very time but sometimes moneys short. And I would never put junkyard parts on anything thats never a good idea.

I agree. In this case if it is the pump I would want to replace the whole assembly and that costs about $140 and the name brand part is $280 and not readily available on a weekend.

I'm going to do the diagnosing tomorrow morning and take it from there.

your choice im not forcing you to put a brand name part in .

it was just a recommendation for you not to drop the tank again in the future for after market product failures
I wish the best of luck to you

Default Update

The pump just didnt sound right at all so I decided to just get a new complete unit and put it in. I live in the midwest, land of the salted roads so everything was rusted. One of the bolts holding the tank straps broke right off and I'm lucky I found a complete unit on a Sunday because the lines on top of the housing snapped off with little effort. There's no way I could have replaced the pump only. Not one gas line was able to break loose including the ones at the filter. I ended up having to just cut the rubber lines and adapted ****** fittings and new rubber gas line at both the filter and the tank.

The truck fired right up and everything seems to work great. The new pump is very quiet.

I've worked on a lot of cars and trucks in my day and this job was a royal pain in the &%*
