I Think I have a serious Problem
Ok I go to do my first oil change on the Blazer since I bought it 4 months ago. when I pull the drain plug I notice some small metal flakes. after I drain the oil the pan has some silver flakes in the bottom of it. When I take the filter off the same thing. Should I be concerned or is this something that I need to just monitor???

Metal flakes in the oil....I would be concerned...but what to do at this point is the question?
Change the oil/filter and drive it for 1000 miles or so, then drain oil and check again?
Pull the distributor out and check the drive gear for damage?
Do a compression and/or leak-down test on each cylinder?
Let's see what others have as suggestions.....

You need to provide known mileage on engine, and as rich asked for more detail. Does not your unit have a magnetic drain plug? I thought they were stock. Anyway,it seems that you are past the point of just weak bearings;oil consumption? Noise? Any idea of the maintenance history? How is the oil pressure? And,how does it run? Even low mileage engines suffer from NEGLECT! I would do what Lanny said, even though you just changed it,obviously. Do not at this point use an engine flush product and do a compression test. That can tell you the condition of the real heart so you won't throw $ at ancillary issues that may not solve your problem! These motors generally last up to 300K on the 1st go-round if maintained properly. Let us know what you find.

So many things to check, like you said, mileage, how it runs, does it knock or tick when running.

Small flakes that are found on the drain plug could be from the camshaft, engine block or other ferrus metal. On the other hand if they are not magnetic, they are likely scraped from the pistons. Either way not good news.
