Default Idler Arm Removal Jimmy 1995 4WD

1995 GMC Jimmy 4.3 L 4WD

To Remove The Idler Arm or Center Tie Rod
1) Remove Outer Tie Rod Ends on both Front Wheel Housings
Tools : Needle Nose Pliers, Flat Blade medium/small screwdriver, 17 mm
low profile socket , 18mm low profile and deep well
sockets, breaker bar, ratchet, Lug Nut Wrench, Tie
Rod Pitch Fork, Ball Joint Pitch Fork, Large Hammer
Parts : New Cotter Pins, Liquid Wrench, WD-40


a) Remove Tire / Rim from Wheel Hub
Remove Safety Cotter Pin from bottom of Outer Tie Rod End Bolt
b) Remove Castle Nut from lower Outer Tie Rod End Bolt
c) Insert Tie Rod Pitch Fork between Tie Rod End and Wheel Spindle
d) Hammer Pitch Fork until Tie Rod End Pops Out of Wheel Spindle
Repeat for other Wheel
Remove Castle Nut - Left Stationary Pitman Arm to Idler Arm
e) Remove two bolts holding Left Stationary Pitman Arm to the Engine
Compartment Frame
f) Remove Castle Nut - Steering Box Pitman Arm to Idler Arm
g) Insert Ball Joint Pitch Fork between Steering Box Pitman Arm and Idler Arm
h) Hammer Ball Joint Pitch Fork until Pitman Arm Bolt Pops Out of Idler Arm

Looks like you've been reading Chilton/Haynes

All you need to do is remove the nut from the idler arm, seperate the stud from the center link using a tie rod seperater, (no "pitch fork necessary") and the two bolts nuts holding the idler arm to the frame. When installing, the center link must be level with the frame, from end to end, before torqueing the idler arm bolts. The holes in the frame are larger than the attaching bolts to allow for adjustment of the idler arm.
