Sup all!

I bought a reposed 98 full size blazer from a bank. Body is in A1 condition, I've changed the ball joints brakes and the back cylinders, idler arm, pinion and some other stuff I figure it needed with 100k on it.

It runs good and has the 4.3 in it.

I'm to the last thing I wanted to fix (If needed). The bank couldn’t get the keys from the previous owner or the keyless remote for that matter. So they sent it to a garage (I don’t know which one) and the garage made a key for the ignition somehow by messing with the tumblers. You have to have the key in an exact spot before you can turn it over. I'm quite used to the sweet spot but my wife has the hardest time with it.

The case is split open around the cylinder so I know the garage had the plastic off. I got keys made at walmart and they work fine (As long as you know where the sweet spot is.)

The Air Bag light is always on (figure the garage knocked the wire off when they took the plastic off to mess with the ignition cylinder - I could be wrong) I've put over 2k on it and the air bag hasn’t given me any problems.

Do you all thinkI would be better of changing out the cylinder? If so, how hard would this be? I know that it has Passloc, so I’m assuming that the cylinder would have a chip on it that would have to match a chip in the steering column so it will start, although, I could be completely out in left field about my understanding of Passloc.

How much are we talking to replace what needs to be done, (the cylinder and whatever else might need to be replaced).

Another thing, how hard would it be to get a remote and program it?

On the remote, you'll need to drop the driver's side hush panel (under the dash) and copy down the codes on the RKE module (directly behind the OBD2 port). Specifically you'll need the FCCID. You can then purchase replacement keyfobs and reprogram them. Many of the online retailers include programming instructions with the replacement keyfobs.

On the ignition cylinder, you can have it replaced with a new cylinder & new key. You may also want to get the exterior locks rekey'd to the new keys. I'm not sure if this is possible or if you would have to get a full lock cylinder / key set... When the new ignition cylinder is installed, it will be necessary to perform a passlock learn on the new key.
