Default ignition issue

i have a 2004 i bought a few years ago and have always had this issue with the cylinder- when i park and go to shut off the vehicle the key will get stuck in the accessory position and will not move to the off position. it will stay like this anywhere from 2 seconds to 10 minutes until i hear an audible 'click' and then ill be able to turn it completely off. i have replaced the ignition cylinder twice now to no avail. the problem started off intermittently but now its almost every time i drive it. other than this the thing runs like a top. any ideas? thanks

I believe theres some kind of switch in the column (or in the shifter if it's a floor shift model) that prevents you from removing the key while in gear. I'd start by checking that switch, sounds like that could be the culprit. As for why it all of a sudden works after it's been sitting i have NO idea.
