Default Ignition issues

I was looking for some help because I can’t get my key to shut off all the way, the key is supposed to come out when the ignition is off all the way but I’ve owned my blazer for a couple years now and I’ve always been able to pull the key out(running or not)
now for the issue, my key has always been able to shut off all the way without issue until recently when I took the steering column cover off. I took it off to change the multi function switch and now that project is done and past I can’t shut the key off without pressing this button type thing on the steering column lock.
i changed that and no fix
i changed my ignition cylinder and no fix
any clue what this issue is being caused by?
I called mechanics and looked online and both gave me answers that didn’t fix this issue

That multi function thing was expensive!

Theres a "gotcha" here, broken plastic bits inside the IGNITION SWITCH. Saw it on my old 78 Blazer. If bits break off, it can jam the mechanism.

so how can I fix it?
Air duster? I can just pull my ignition cylinder out again and dust it out with some air
I do believe I said I changed my ignition cylinder but I don’t quite recall.

switch, not cylinder, the cylinder is what gets the key.

I disassembled an old ignition switch from our 78 Blazer, it had broken plastic bits. A new switch fixed it.

No air, the switch should have special grease inside to lube the sliding contacts else they will be destroyed quickly from friction. That grease must be compatible with the plastic switch body

I think I might be confused then, because what part is the switch, is it the part behind the cylinder?

The switch is (may be) operated by the key-lock cylinder by a rod that goes down the steering column to the ignition switch.
The ignition switch should be mounted on the side of the steering column and have maybe a 5 (?) wire plug attached to it.

The key (tumbler assy) is not the switch. Theres not enough space in the steering wheel / upper steering column are to put the switch there.

I watched a video on the replacement process. It seems easy, If I knew this would be an issue, I would have done it when I had the whole thing apart already
I'll talk to my closest Orielys, order the thing, and let you know how it goes, I'm crossing my fingers that this will work!!

What year is your truck? Does it have a manual transmission?

Trucks with a manual transmission have a key release button that you have to press in order to turn fully to the off position and release the key from the ignition. You say you now have to press a button. Is it possible in reassembling the ignition column you've re-enabled this safety switch that a previous owner had disabled?

Edit to add picture of what I'm talking about. There's a button beside the key that you have to press in order to release the key:

it didn’t work to fix the issue
while I had it apart and about to put it back together, it was as it’s supposed to be but once I plugged it back in, back to not working
any thing else it could be?

it’s a 1997 with an automatic transmission, and also I had replaced that part but the issue persisted so I’m stumped
