I replaced my heater core. After reassembling everything, the truck would turn over, but not start (no spark; I can hear the fuel pump working) also, my key was difficult to turn forward, it finally did go forward, but would not come turn back to the stop position (I had to use the release button under the column). Graphite lubricant helped a little, but I still was not able to get the key back to the stop position without engaging the button under the column. I removed the dash again, checked for loose wires- everything looked fine. Reassembled, same problem- engine turns,but no spark. horn works, radio works, all other gages look fine except the fuel gage way past the full mark. I replaced the ignition switch electrical assy ($103), truck still will not start and the key will not return to the stop position without the release button. The buzzer is now sounding when I open the door even without the key in the ignition. Could my ignition cylinder be bad?

 

Sounds like you installed the new ignition switch one tooth off of proper position.

 

I installed the switch with the ignition turned fully back in the acc position. Is there a good way to ensure the proper position?

 

The way I have always done it is to line up the gear exactly like the old switch was when I removed it.
