When my temp gage reached 210 I would get no heat. It would go to about 240. If I reved it a couple of times it would go back to 180. So I had it flushed and everything was fine fo a couple of weeks. I started it up and it would go up to 260 in a couple of minutes, as soon as I put it in nuteral it would go back down in a couple of minutes. It sat for about 4 hrs and then it drove fine. Next day it drove at 240, but the hoses didn't feel that hot. Any idea?

 

check the coolant level. their could also be air in the system. also what kind of antifreeze are you using? Dexcool or the green stuff?

 

The type of coolant makes no difference in the temperature issue. I agree with checking the coolant level and purging any air from the coolant system, plus verifying that the heater core is not plugged, if its hoses are not both hot.

 

You should also check for a sticking thermostat and check your upper and lower radiator hoses to see if they are soft. A collapsing hose is a common cause of this problem.
