Default This isn't factory is it? (Door Hinges)

So I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer LS 4D that I've been giving much love in fixing up over the years. I bought it about 5 or so years ago now and lots of work the previous owners had done, I've had to go back and fix right myself.

So I'm just wanting to make sure, the door pins by factory are not welded at all right?

I'm guessing the bushings were wearing out and one of the previous owners tried to remove the pin and the bushing came out and got stuck so they said screw it and welded it back in. I looked underneath and I do not notice any egging of the pin hole. Also the bottom pin isn't all the way in.

I'm going to yet again, do it right and get the pin/bushing sets for both front doors but now I have to find someone who can break that weld for me and the bushing is rust welded to the pin so probably just cut the pin out if possible.

Has anyone ran into this before? I mean I've heard of welding the pin in place if the hole has egged were the bushing no longer does it's job but this looks like a case of frustration.

Now it's my frustration... Thanks previous owner.

Pics of my situation added below:

That's right, there is no welding involved in the pins or bushings. In that top hinge it looks like the upper bushing fell down from the top of the hinge and then they welded the pin to the hinge?

Normally those bushings are pressed in with OS versions available. As you said, the torch usually stays in the shop unless the hinge bores are egged out. The pins have a few thou clearance in the bushings.

What does your strike plate look like? That may need to be addressed as you make this "right".

Also, it looks like that weld at the upper hinge/body attachment is starting to crack.

^^^^^^^ Agreed. Someone had no idea how to correctly fix the hinge problem they were having and broke out the welder. I think best course of action would be to cut the hinge pin off at the top and pound the pin down. A sawsall with a fine tooth metal blade should get the trick done. Also, concur with the cracked weld on the upper hinge and checking out your striker plate.

Thank you guys for chiming in! My striker plate is in perfect shape and door shuts fine. It's just I noticed the ever so slight sag which had to be that way since I bought it but just caught my attention finally.

I looked at the top mount and the space in front is were it looks like it didn't get welded. The top of the mount side is though all the way. There is a slight ever so hairline crack near the edge if that is what you all are seeing.

I'll have it checked out later and keep an eye on it but it's solid as of now. Now since I no longer have a sawzall, I'm going to have to find someone to borrow their services lol. And a small grinder to break that weld.

I don't understand it though. I'm looking at it and thinking okay maybe the bushing got stuck and they said screw it cause I figured they were removing it at some point seeing how the bottom one isn't all the way in. But decided to weld it rather than just cut the pin.

Again, their frustration became mine... I mean it could be worse I guess.

Yup that is exactly what they did so the upper part of the pin still can move inside the pin hole which is were my slight sag is coming from.
