Actually these are 8.625 ring gear with 30 spline axles and same HD bearings as a 12-bolt. People incorrectly call them an 8.5.

Jim at JD Race & Restoration in Ohio. Was there last week and he was showing me an 8.625 4WD rear he was planning to narrow for 2WD S10s. Google his business. Call him. Maybe he will sell an uncut 4WD housing unit to you. Why do you need one? The 4WD unit is too wide for 2WD application - wheels stick out. I believe all the Blazer/S10s with the 8.625 were GU6.

I previously bought a true original 2WD S10 8.625 rear from him (early 2000s 4.3, 5 speed manual only). He put a new Eaton Posi and 3.73:1 gears, brake kit, lines, brake hose and sold it to me a a drop in for my V8 S10.

I ended up finding one at a lkq. The reason I had to replace mine is I took my blazer to this light and audio shop to have some outdoor speakers mounted. Long story short I dropped my truck off running fine. Picked it up rear end was clanking. Had no proof that they drove it. But my mechanic (who's a licensed mechanic for over 25 years) said that someone for sure was joy riding in my truck. But still can't do nothing bout it
