Talking Just want to say THANKS Blazerforms!!

I've hiding in the shadows here on the blazerforms for awhile. I got my blazer when my mother passed away since nobody else in the family wanted it.

Shortly after I got it, the check engine light came on and so did the ABS lights. I brought it into a shop awhile back for the check engine light since I couldn't figure it out. It was popping PO453's and PO446's. They charged me $100 to look at it, and in the end told me that I needed a new ECM/PCM computer module for $900... I said no and went on my way.

So after a few more months of combing the Blazerforms, I decided to tackle this myself once and for all. Long story short, replaced the canister vent valve above the gas tank for $25, and soldered some cracked joints in the ABS pump module (free)... Results...?

No more dash lights....!!!

Everything looks like it's running great again and it's been a couple of days...!

Oh and one more thing, I also decided to shave off that lip from the throttle body butterfly just for giggles... Yup, totally added more lower end and quicker response on the throttle. Idle to about 3,000 rpms is way more forceful then before.

But again, thanks guys for all your help and keep up there good work...!

I'm always amazed and/or disappointed by the dismissive opinions of some professionals. They pull the codes, look in the book, and give a price for replacing some components. They don't really do a thorough diagnostic process and find the real cause of problems. That's not to say that all professionals are like that, but there are enough of them who do that to impugn the reputation of the whole lot of them.

I agree 100%. Far more PCM's are replaced due to mis-diagnosis, than actually need replacement. The fact is, the PCM's are darn near bulletproof and rarely fail. I've seen countless times where a shop couldn't diagnose a problem, so they try to scare the customer off by telling them they need a PCM. The customer usually balks at the price, as you did, and either gives up and lives with the problem, sells the vehicle, or does some research and fix it themself, as you did! Good job! It's not "rocket science", you just need to know how and why it works to figure out why it doesn't.

I had that exact same experience with my wife's old '96 Lumina. The pulley came off the power steering pump and bumped into a bunch of things on its way out of the engine compartment. In the process it damaged one of the ground wires for some of the engine sensors. I took it to a shop and they said the PCM was bad. I bought a replacement off eBay for $0.99, installed it, and took it to the dealer for a reflash. The problem was exactly the same. I sold the replacement PCM for $10 on eBay and took the car to a friend where we painstakingly went through every circuit for every engine sensor and discovered the intermittent ground. Ever since that experience I haven't been shy about asking many questions about the troubleshooting process of anyone I take my vehicles to.

kajida, I'm sure Blazer forum would also like to thank you for looking instead of repeatedly asking until someone gave you the correct answer. I can only assume since you only have 11 posts so far.
I'll throw out a thank you as well because I've got a lot of help and information here.

There are a lot of guys on here who have unknowingly helped me! This is one of the best forums out there for quality of information. A lot of forums seem to be full of people guessing that don't have real experience with an issue. Kudos to BF members!!
